Anna Watkins
My main interests are around sustainable materials development and designing for sustainability throughout design and manufacture processes, as well as marketing sustainability effectively to consumers. I’m also interested in the intersection between traditional craft processes and innovation, and how combining the two can create high value products. My work is focused on highly textural textiles and finding new ways to use textures that, due to their labour-intensive production and delicate results, have previously had very limited functionality.

- What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: I’m currently developing a sustainable textile solution that recycles industrial textile waste into a material that can mimic the textures achieved by fine handcrafted pleating processes, in a way that is permanent and functional. I am working towards developing this material into a commercial product and brand, specifically a range of premium fashion accessories. I aim to create an impactful solution that contributes to a circular economy and embraces both the principles of craft and the innovation of design-led sustainability.
- What types of projects are you interested in working on through Future Fashion Factory?: I’m particularly interested in any projects to do with sustainability and circular economy, especially the re-use of waste.
