Techknitly Ltd t/a Ambar

Design & Manufacturing (Homeware, Interiors & Outdoor Products)

Ambar is an independent London-based textile development studio and homeware label focused on bespoke projects and collaborations. The products are all designed, developed and manufactured in the UK; skilfully blending traditional craft with technology. Studio Founder & Designer, Natalia, combines the expertise of the small, independent manufacturers with the unconventional and experimental spirit of Ambar.

Although the knits are machine-made, Ambar focuses on slow design and development, and every product has an artisanal look and feel to them – as well as an artisanal scale of production. Projects can range from limited editions to larger-scale runs without compromising quality.

Alongside the own-brand collections, Natalia collaborates with other Artists to create limited edition designs on an individual scale; translating each creative’s artworks into carefully crafted and timeless pieces.

  • What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: To offer our UK based ethical textile development process to other brands and designers as a service and to continue to produce our list style brand products (homeware and accessories) in the UK. Although all manufacturing for Ambar takes place in the UK, we still source some of the wool yarn from Italy. We would like to be introduced to UK based wool spinners and in a medium to long term basis, get to know more about Scottish cashmere spinning and yarn supplying. We would love to find alternative options so that everything is UK-made and sourced. The majority of our products are now made with entirely natural fibres and we want to evolve to fully biodegradable and natural fibres. We aim to grow our inter-disciplinary collaborations branch of the business. We can offer a platform to enable more designers and artists to produce their designs using our tried and tested supply chain, development process and quality control. We seek to invest in prototyping to develop Innovative knit fabrications for diverse uses such as furniture and outdoor textiles and raise funding to expand the trade without compromising the established ethical supply chain.
  • What types of projects are you interested in working on through Future Fashion Factory?: We are Interested in introductions to UK-based suppliers and manufacturers, particularly wool and yarn suppliers with a focus on natural materials. We would also like to meet likeminded brands, designers and artists with the view to work on more collaborations. We would also appreciate any guidance and help with funding applications.
