 Fashion & Textile Professionals

I am currently undertaking my PhD looking at how the principle of redesign can be embedded into the design process, using tools such as ‘backcasting’. Looking specifically at sportswear, I am developing ideas of how we can design for repair and remanufacture in a way that is reducing waste, viable, and yet enabling a redesigner creative freedom.

Within this research I touch on design education, looking at the way we, as designers, construct ideas and garments. I aim to understand if this can help embed knowledge of design processes that allow for easier repair and remanufacture.

The strengths I could bring to a Future Fashion Factory project could include collaborative work exploring creative thinking around sustainable design problems. I have worked in industry and education/research so I hope that I could bring this experience and my connections to help with the work the FFF is undertaking.

  • What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: I hope to achieve my PhD in the coming years, growing my knowledge of sustainable design processes. I want to explore research ideas with brands, embedding the links between academia and industry. I hope to integrate my research into my teaching practice, to reflect on the impact that could create.
  • What types of projects are you interested in working on through Future Fashion Factory?: I am interested in projects looking at Digital Design and exploring how 3D software can enhance and streamline the design and sampling process. Design for remanufacture is a key interest and projects within this remit would be of interest to me. I am also very interested in working with fashion design students and projects around how to integrate sustainable practice ideas into the current education stream.
