my character

 Design & Manufacturing (Apparel)

my character is a remarkable new sustainable fashion brand with a desire to shake up
mainstream leisurewear, shining a bright light on individuality through the fashion industry
lens.

We promise to value inclusion and celebrate the differences and similarities in people from
all cultures and walks of life that connect us all.

We are working hard to develop a gender neutral collection, designed and manufactured in
the UK utilizing a sustainable model.

We prioritise minimising waste through on-demand customisation, putting the customer in
control of what is being produced for them, celebrating their story, what makes them unique,
their own character.

I’m an entrepreneur who has taken the leap from a senior role after 20 years in the
branding/events sector to build my vision for a sustainable fashion brand. To reduce my
initial outlay, I am working from home, taking on the core project manager/commercial
director role myself, reducing labour costs.

Whilst the launch team is small, I have already developed a growing network of
professionals within the fashion industry and I am working on a skills exchange with a
green graphic design agency who has experience with fashion brands.

I am experienced in multitasking, invested in my goal, thrive under pressure and looking for guidance and funding to launch the brand in the short term.

  • What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: During our research phase we reached out to pioneers from the customisation and on-demand fashion manufacturing sectors including Unmade who are working with Nike, Rapha and New Balance and Teklyn from France. Whilst these models are being adopted globally they are not available to small brands or start ups. At my character we aim to develop a solution that will work for us and smaller brands opening a route to market that is thoughtful and sustainable but also commercially viable for both brands and manufacturers, seeing brands collaborate more together on their production and challenging the one size fits all manufacturing processes that need to be revamped to meet consumer demand for a more sustainable future. By developing an innovative solution with an on-demand manufacturing model for customised products we will be addressing a need for near shore manufacturing post Brexit. Promoting made-to-order and customisation within the UK we will hopefully inspire and champion other brands to follow their dream building a robust manufacturing solution on British soil. The vision for the future of My Character expands beyond leisurewear and into other areas in the apparel and jewellery sectors, for which we have already taken the trademark. We are thinking big and have some exciting ideas, however the brand will always stay true to its core brand values and DNA, putting sustainability first and driving innovative new methods for production and manufacturing that challenge the fast fashion model.
  • What types of projects are you interested in working on through Future Fashion Factory?: We are looking to move the business from pre-production to full-scale launch within 9 months (spring 2022) split in two phases with a soft launch to prototype the first collection of the sweatshirt and perfect the production model. Then we will focus on building some assets to use to generate interest and PR whilst the 2nd phase of production - 12 weeks to hard launch in March 2022. Looking to use generational marketing to reach our customer profiles using a combination of paid media and social channels including, Instagram, tiktok, Facebook and Pinterest alongside a strong PR campaign. We are looking for support and funding across any of the following areas: production development, manufacturer sourcing, material sourcing, sustainability specialists, website development, content creation, PR and e-marketers all in line with our brand visions.
