Gareth Wadkin

 Fashion & Textile Professionals

Textile heritage of West Yorkshire is a key interest in my academic practice. I have worked on several initiatives with the Crafts Council on projects which aim to develop pupil’s twenty-first century skills through textile art, craft and design, which can be transferred across other subject areas to provide children with skills for life.

Other expertise includes researching future crafts for the design and making of sustainable textiles. This is series of projects that bring together traditional hand and craft techniques with emerging technology, new materials and digital production methods. The focus for this particular research strand is to encourage a sense of community, discussion, creative practice and cross-generational teaching and learning.

Strengths include project managing collaborations with schools and community groups alongside undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as sustainable colour and surface textile practices for design and making.
