MSc Textiles (Graduation: September 2020)

I have just begun studying Textiles at Masters degree level at the University of Leeds, here I am studying in depth about textiles technologies and colouring and finishing processes which are undertaken.

As sustainability and innovation are so relevant at the moment due to environmental and social factors, that the textiles industry in part produces, I am interested in helping the textile industry to think about clever ideas and deliver on solutions to overcome the industries main sources of polluting.

As of yet I have little experience within the textiles industry as I come from an anthropology background, but I would hope that this background can be of use in terms of a multidisciplinary approach.

  • What are your aspirations and plans for the future?: Once I graduate I would like to start working straightaway in innovation and development of some new material or dye that is preferably sustainable and has a socially motivated end-use. This could range from health applications or working alongside scientists to create a sustainable synthetic material that could replace polyester. Obviously I would like to be successful in this and would like to be clued up and involved with many developments that will go on.
  • What type of experience are you hoping to gain through Future Fashion Factory?: It would be great if I could gain the work opportunities that have been used as examples. I think it is quite difficult to get into this area, especially through traditional job hunting sites and Future Fashion Factory’s opportunities are catered to my career aspirations. I also hope to attend many of your workshops and seminars to get some current knowledge and also feel part of a driven community too.
