Wool Week 2020: A New Take on Denim from The Array and Joshua Ellis

Luxury cashmere and wool producer Joshua Ellis has announced a special collaboration with an emerging London fashion brand to celebrate Wool Week 2020.

Yvonne Lim and Shaonan Xu have just launched The Array, a luxury designer label dedicated to empowering working women. After many women cited the denim jacket as a staple of their spring / summer work wardrobes during their research process, the duo took indigo lambswool from Joshua Ellis to produce a new take on the classic denim jacket in wool.

Naturally elastic as well as stain and odour-resistant, wool also reacts to changes in temperature, keeping the wearer cool in summer and warm in winter. These properties make it a natural choice for workwear and activewear.

The finished jacket can also be seen in Future Fashion Factory’s virtual Wool Week showroom online, created in partnership with BrandLab Fashion.

This collaboration is part of Future Fashion Factory’s innovative project for Wool Week, bringing together exciting new design talent from the Royal College of Art with heritage Yorkshire mills from our community of over 250 manufacturers, fashion designers, brands and more.

Oliver Platts, Managing Director at Joshua Ellis, said: “Joshua Ellis has been part of the Yorkshire wool manufacturing industry for over 250 years and we were delighted to support this venture alongside Future Fashion Factory and The Array. Yvonne and Shaonan have created a beautiful piece which showcases the luxuriousness and versatility of wool and it is always a pleasure to see our fabrics turned into such amazing product.”

Yvonne Lim at The Array said: “We were absolutely honoured to have the chance to work with a heritage British wool mill like Joshua Ellis. Future Fashion Factory has created a fantastic opportunity for recent fashion graduates like us to connect and collaborate with local mills and explore their beautiful offerings.

“With our label The Array we only work with natural fabrics, and wool has natural performance characteristics which fits in with our philosophy of making clothes as beautiful as they are functional for the working woman.”

Suzy Shepherd, Co-Director of Future Fashion Factory, said: “The partnership of young designers behind The Array produces extraordinarily beautiful and thoughtful items that transcend the everyday for the working woman’s wardrobe. Using the premium lambswool from Joshua Ellis creates a surprisingly practical and extremely wearable garment that chimes with Future Fashion Factory’s mission of driving innovative, luxury sustainable fashion.”
