Education & Skills

Development of STEAM-Based Designers

The R&D across both themes in the Future Fashion Factory feeds in to the creation of new fashion design degree and industrial apprenticeship programmes to address the skills gap in the industry for multidisciplinary STEAM designers. The purpose is remove traditional educational art and design and technology silos, and develop design leaders who are uniquely equipped with creative, art, design, science and technology skills needed to drive UK growth.

In addition to innovation in the textiles and fashion programmes offered by the Universities of Leeds, Huddersfield and the Royal College of Art, important work is also underway at the Textile Centre of Excellence in Huddersfield, developing the next generation of apprenticeships for our industry.

The Centre offers quality assured, flexible training at all levels from pre-entry traineeships to foundation degree equivalent programmes. The Centre is a recognised BS EN ISO 9001: 2008 organisation, holds the ‘Matrix’ standard for Information, Advance and Guidance (IAG) and has secured the Creative Skillset Industry Tick for industry relevant training and skills provision.
